A five-arc journey with a character who gets into spectacular mishaps—and learns from everyone

Welcome to the world of Harold and Spike! You're about to meet a tall, gangly 9-year-old who gets into the most spectacular mishaps imaginable. Harold doesn't mean to cause chaos—he just does. But here's the thing: every disaster teaches him something. And as you read about Harold's adventures, you're going to discover things about yourself too.

This isn't just a book series. It's a complete learning experience designed to help you ages 8-13 grow as a person. Through five story arcs, you'll follow Harold from his Foundation Years all the way to his Growing Up Years. You'll laugh, you'll learn, and you'll probably see yourself in Harold's stories more times than you expect.

The best part? This experience is designed just for you. Your teachers are talking about the same lessons Harold teaches. Your parents are reading the same stories. But this zone—this is about your journey and your growth.

how the 3-zone ecosystem works (and why it matters)

You're Not Reading Alone

Your teachers, parents, and community are on the same journey with you

Here's something cool: you're not learning alone. While you're reading and growing, three zones work together to support you:

Your Zone (Students' Zone) This is all about YOU. You get activities that help you understand Harold better, reflection prompts that help you see yourself in his stories, and interactive materials designed to make reading more engaging. You'll track your own growth and see how you're changing.

Your Teachers' Zone (Educators' Zone) Your teachers are reading the same books and teaching lessons connected to Harold's story. When your teacher talks about responsibility or honesty or persistence, they're using Harold as an example because they know you care about what happens to him.

Your Parents' Zone (Parents' Zone) At home, your parents are reading and discussing the same stories. They're having conversations about the lessons Harold learns, and they're probably seeing how those lessons show up in your real life.

The Result? Whether you're at school, at home, or reading alone, you're experiencing the same story and learning the same lessons. Harold's adventures become a language you all speak together.

Five Arcs, Five Stages of Growing Up

Find the arc that matches where you are right now— or,

start at the beginning and grow with HAZARDOUS Harold

The Harold series is organized into five arcs, and each arc is designed for a specific stage of your growth:

Arc 1: Foundation Years (Ages 8-9) Books 1-5 follow Harold as he learns the basics: responsibility, honesty, patience, perseverance, and mindfulness. These are the foundation skills that everything else builds on.

Arc 2: Growth Years (Ages 9-10) Books 6-10 show Harold navigating bigger challenges as he grows. Friendship drama, academic pressure, and finding his place—sound familiar?

Arc 3: Challenge Years (Ages 11-12) Books 11-15 take Harold into tougher territory. Competition, failure, self-doubt, and resilience. These books get real about what it's like to be challenged.

Arc 4: Mastery Years (Ages 12-13) Books 16-20 show Harold gaining confidence and mastery. He's still making mistakes, but he's learning from them faster. You will too.

Arc 5: Growing Up Years (Ages 14-15) Books 21-29 explore the bigger questions: identity, digital citizenship, mental health, and what it means to grow up. These books don't shy away from real topics.

You can start at Book 1 and follow Harold's complete journey, or if you're older, jump into the arc that matches your age. Either way, you'll find something meaningful.

The Ecosystem in Action

How Harold's story becomes the voice in your head when it matters most

Imagine this:

You finish reading Book 3: Birthday Bash where Harold struggles with patience and impulse control. In class, your teacher discusses how Harold's impatience created his problems and what he could have done differently. At home, your parents ask you about a time when you acted without thinking. You realize that Harold's struggle is actually YOUR struggle too.

Then, a few days later, something happens at school. You're about to do something impulsive, and suddenly Harold's story pops into your head. You pause. You think about the consequences. You make a better choice.

That's the power of this ecosystem. Harold isn't just entertainment—he becomes part of how you think about your own life.

Questions Students Ask

Everything you need to know about reading Harold and growing through his stories

  • Nope! Start with Book 1 and see where it takes you. Some students race through the whole series. Others like to savor one book at a time. There's no wrong way to read Harold.

  • Read what interests you! If you're 9 and love a book from Arc 2, that's fine. If you're 12 and want to start at Book 1 to get the full journey, that works too. You decide what feels right.

  • Absolutely. Harold's stories are funny and engaging, so even if you usually avoid reading, you might find yourself actually wanting to keep reading. Plus, audiobook versions are coming soon if that's easier for you.

  • The student materials include activities that help you engage more deeply with books you've already read. You can re-discover them in a new way.

Q: Will my parents and teachers be reading the same books? Probably! Your teacher is likely using Harold in class, and your parents might be reading along too. But this zone is specifically about YOUR experience and YOUR growth. You're the star here.

  • No. They're designed to make you think and reflect, but they're not like homework that has one "right" answer. There's space for your own thoughts and feelings.

  • Yes! The Students' Community is a safe space where you can share your thoughts about Harold and connect with other readers your age. You decide what you want to share.

  • That's totally fine. Not every book or character is going to be your favorite. The materials give you space to think critically about what works and what doesn't. Your honest opinion matters.

  • Both Audiobook and Interactive Audio versions are coming soon! This will make Harold accessible in lots of different ways—reading in the car, listening before bed, or just switching things up. Circle Members will be the first to know.

  • That's totally up to you. You could spend 30 minutes reading a book and doing one activity, or dive deeper with more reflections and creative projects. You control the pace.

  • Honestly? Only if you engage with them. The materials are designed to help you notice changes in yourself and think about your own growth. But you have to be willing to reflect and think about what you're learning. If you do that, yes—real growth happens.
