Hazardous Harold & Social Emotional Learning

Many schools now recognise that successful learning depends not only on academic skills but also on the development of social and emotional intelligence.

Hazardous Harold stories support the widely used CASEL Social Emotional Learning (SEL) framework, which focuses on helping students build positive relationships, manage emotions, and make responsible decisions.

The CASEL framework highlights five key competencies:

• Self-awareness
• Self-management
• Social awareness
• Relationship skills
• Responsible decision-making

Harold’s adventures provide engaging opportunities for students to explore these ideas through storytelling.

As students follow Harold’s misadventures, they are encouraged to reflect on behaviour, understand the impact of choices, and consider how empathy and communication can improve relationships.

These discussions help students develop the emotional skills needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
